In the small fishing town of El Medano, below the island’s southern airport, strong winds are almost guaranteed, which makes this place so popular among surfers. El Medano is one of the best hot spots for surfers in the world and world championships are held here every year. There are also several spots with high waves elsewhere on the island that are popular with surfers.
